INTERNATIONAL LECTURES

LECTURE: ORAL POTENTIALLY MALIGNANT DISORDERS – CHALLENGES IN DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT


PROF. SAMAN WARNAKULASURIYA

Saman Warnakulasuriya is an emeritus professor of Oral Medicine and Experimental Pathology at King’s College London, UK, and was the Chairman of the Oral Medicine Division at King’s College Hospital and at Guy’s Hospital, London from 2005 -2015. He has acted as the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Oral Cancer since 2005. He has made major contributions in cancer epidemiology, oral medicine, and experimental pathology. He is a leading expert on human carcinogens and has contributed to the Monograph Program of the International Agency for Research on Cancer. He developed the classification and nomenclature of Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders published by the WHO Collaborating Centre in 2005 (updated in 2020). He was the recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Awards from the International Association of Dental Research in both Oral Medicine and Pathology (2014) and in Global Oral Health (2021). He was elected a Fellow of King's College in 2019. In 2016 he was appointed as an Officer of the British Empire by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to Medicine.

PROF. CAMILE S. FARAH

Camile is Executive Director of the Australian Centre for Oral Oncology Research & Education, Adjunct Professor at CQ University, Honorary Professorial Research Fellow at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, President-elect of the IADR Oral Medicine and Pathology Group, and Treasurer and Non-Executive Director of the Australian & New Zealand Head and Neck Cancer Society.

He is the former Dean of Dentistry, Professor of Oral Oncology, and Chief Executive Officer of the Oral Health Centre of WA at the University of Western Australia, former Deputy Dean and Reader in Oral Medicine & Pathology at the University of Queensland Dental School, former Chair of the Australian Dental Research Foundation, former President of the ANZ Division and Asia Pacific Region of the International Association for Dental Research, and former and Inaugural President of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia.

Camile is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and Associate Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Management, and has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course, the Leadership WA Signature Program, and the Harvard-King’s College Senior Dental Leadership Program.

PROF. ROSS KERR

Dr. Ross Kerr received his DDS from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and his MSD and certificate in Oral Medicine at the University of Washington. He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology & Medicine at New York University College of Dentistry and the recipient of NYU’s distinguished teaching award. He is a past president of the American Academy of Oral Medicine, director of the American Board of Oral Medicine, steering committee member of the World Workshop on Oral Medicine, member of the executive committee of the European Association of Oral Medicine, and member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Oral Cancer Foundation. His research experience includes the evaluation of current and emerging technologies for the detection and diagnosis of oral cancer and oral potentially malignant disorders. He has contributed more than 100 publications to the dental and medical literature.

PROF. GERARDO GILLIGAN

Assistant Professor of Stomatology at the Faculty of Dentistry of the National University of Córdoba; Dentist Graduated with special mention; DDS, PhD; Specialist in Clinical Stomatology at the Faculty of Dentistry Pcia de Córdoba.

Researcher in the field of Oral Cancer and Potentially Malignant Oral Disorders; Author and co-author of publications in the field of Oral Medicine; Undersecretary of Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Dentistry of the National University of Córdoba; General Secretary of the Society of Stomatology of Cordoba, Argentina.


LECTURE: THE WEIRD & WONDERFUL WORLD OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL PATHOLOGY


PROF. NADIM M. ISLAM

Nadim M. Islam serves as a Professor, Residency program & Internship Director of Oral pathology and the Director of Oral Pathology Laboratory & biopsy service at University of Florida, College of Dentistry. Nadim is a member of the ADA & ADEA, Fellow, by examination, of the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and a Diplomate of the ABOMP. He is the fellowship examiner for the AAOMP and an examiner for the ADA/INDBE exam. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer reviewed articles, over 75 national, 20 international presentations and several book chapters. He is the Chair of the College’s Faculty Advisory Board as well as the Faculty Assembly. Nadim has presented and lectured extensively aa an invited speaker at UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, Nepal, Canada and at Brazil. He works towards women empowerment and equality at the workplace. Nadim intends to spend his future years towards championing the noble cause of acid attack women victims and their rehabilitation.

PROFA. RICHEAL NI RIORDAIN

Richeal Ni Riordain is a Consultant/Senior Lecturer in Oral Medicine in Cork University Dental School and Hospital Ireland, Honorary Associate Professor of Oral Medicine in University College London Eastman Dental Institute and Health Education England’s Regional Academic and Research Advisor for London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex UK. She has worked both in medicine and dentistry and her research interests include patient and clinician reported outcomes, core outcome set and educational research with an MA in Higher Education and a PhD in Oral Medicine.  Dr Ni Riordain is a past president of the Irish Division of IADR and the former Oral Health Research Fellow with the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement. She is currently a member of the Steering Committee for the World Workshop on Oral Medicine IX, a Fellows Representative for the British and Irish Society for Oral Medicine, a Representative in the Regional Council for the Association of Dental Education in Europe and a Board Member of the Dental Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.
