Resumo: This review article examines the crucial role of chromatin organization in the regulation of gene expression and its implications for cellular differentiation, cancer, and aging. It delves into how the interplay between transcriptionally active euchromatin and gene-repressive heterochromatin, coded by a complex "histone code" of histone modifications, orchestrates cellular processes. The review discusses the pathological impacts of these mechanisms, including the relationship between aberrant chromatin states and cancer, such as alterations in histone modifications or DNA methylation patterns, as well as their critical influence on rare accelerated aging conditions, like Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS). Additionally, the article emphasizes the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of epigenetics. AI ability to dissect intricate epigenetic interactions enables tailored and precise therapeutic strategies, particularly in mitigating chromatin modifications associated with aging and malignancy. Through predictive modeling and data analysis, AI expedites the drug discovery process, customizes patient care, and ensures greater accuracy in targeting epigenetic aberrations. This article integrates the current scientific understanding of chromatin influence on cancer and aging with innovative AI approaches, heralding a new era of precision medicine rooted in epigenetic research.
