Resumo: Pequi (Caryocar brasiliense) is a plant native to the Brazilian Cerrado whose bioactives present in the oil of its edible fruits have potential anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antimicrobial, antiallergic, antiulcerogenic and antifungal properties. Objective: This study aims to study the physicochemical and biological properties of pequi oil (OP) for the development of possible easily accessible and low-cost herbal medicines for use in dentistry. Experiment design: characterization of physicochemical properties, such as density (ρ), plastic viscosity (η) and hydrogen potential (pH), in triplicates, from OP produced by two Brazilian commercial brands and encourage future analyzes of biological properties and microbiological studies on oral biofilm, in vitro and in vivo. Results: The partial results were mean density (ρ) of OP1 and OP2 at d20=0.917 and 0.913 and r20=0.916 and 0.912; the average plastic viscosities (η) obtained were 58.1cP and 54.7cP; and hydrogen potential (pH) were, on average, 6.81 and 6.32, respectively. Conclusion: it is concluded that the OPs studied may have oral biocompatibility, which can be confirmed in future biological studies and applied as a biopharmaceutical for the treatment of lesions and oral biofilm.
