Resumo: OBJECTIVE : To evaluate the antimicrobial activity and the roughness of 1% chlorhexidine diacetate incorporated in removables dentures based on the acrylic commercial resins New Truliner T and TrusoftT. STUDY DESIGN: The antimicrobial activity against a referential Candida albicans (ATCC 10231) was evaluated by diffusion test (CLSI M44-A) and through the counting of Colony Forming Units (CFU). Furthermore, quantitative analyzes of materials roughness were obtained in non-contact 3D digital profilometer. Data obtained were tabulated and submitted to statistical analysis using the SPSS® software (version 17.0, Chicago, USA). The level of significance adopted was set at 5%. RESULTS: Both, acrylic resin relining materials incorporated with 1% chlorhexidine diacetate showed significant antifungal effect and the incorporation of 1% chlorhexidine diacetate did not interfere with the roughness of the materials. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that may be reasonable to commercially develop prosthesis incorporated with antimicrobial materials, with low tissue toxicity and that do not interfere with the quality or roughness of the material, as demonstrated in this study.
