Resumo: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is the most prevalent leukemia in adults, characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells. A 44-year-old woman, a smoker, presented with spontaneous pain in the region of the lower incisors. In dental care, she underwent tooth extraction. After one month, the patient presented complications due to hemorrhage and later exuberant progressive gingival hyperplasia. Evaluation revealed leukocytosis with increased blast count, confirming AML. Therapeutic interventions involved prophylactic and therapeutic antiviral treatment, antibiotics, and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, but the patient deteriorated rapidly and died. After CT, there was remission of gingival hyperplasia. This case underscores the diagnostic challenges of AML, as it may present with initial unusual symptoms. Dental professionals should be aware of hematologic malignancies that can manifest with oral symptoms and this diagnosis is crucial to optimize patient outcomes.
