Resumo: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most important causes of severe sepsis and death among cancer patients with neutropenia. The objective is to report a case in which antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) was used in the management of oral Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A 54-year-old woman, with a history of metastatic retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit due to febrile neutropenia and intense oral pain. Intraoral examination revealed multiple painful ulcerated lesions. Viral and bacterial infections were the main diagnostic hypotheses. Exfoliative cytology and culture were collected and reactive for Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Five sessions of aPDT were performed. After the third session of aPDT, the patient showed clinical improvement. After 14 days in the hospital, the patient was discharged and continued to be followed up in the outpatient clinic. Six months later, she remains asymptomatic. Therefore, aPDT could be effective as therapeutic strategy for the regression of oral infections.
