Título: DELAY IN DIAGNOSIS OF TONGUE CANCER IN YOUNG WOMAN

Resumo: A 33 -year-old patient presented herself at the service with a main complaint of a tongue lesion. For the last 5 years she observed an alteration on the left side of the tongue, displaying alarming growth over a three week period. The lesion was painful when the patient talked or while eating. Regarding her medical history she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis. On intra oral examination we found a tumor in the middle third position of the left side of the tongue, appearing to be exophytic, with a raised, indurated edges with diffuse white plaque on the underside. Considering the clinical appearance and the history of the quick growth of the tongue's lesion a biopsy under local anesthesia was performed. The histopathology showed a squamous cell carcinoma. The patient was transferred to head and neck doctor for surgical resection. She is currently being followed up and will soon begin radiotherapy.
