Resumo: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) most frequently affects smokers and alcoholic men over 40 years of age. However, an increase in the occurrence of squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue has been reported in non-smoking and non-alcoholic women. Purpose: to analyze the clinicopathological profile of women with OSCC treated at a single oral cancer treatment center. Patients and methods: clinical and demographic data were obtained from medical records of women with OSCC treated at our center over a 30-year period. Results: One hundred and thirty four cases of women with OSCC were analyzed. The average age of the female patient was 65 years old, and the most prevalent ethnicity was white (72.4%). Sixty patients (44.8%) had localized tumors in the tongue and most of them (54.5%) were classified in early stage. Seventy-one OSCC female patients (53%) were non-smokers and ninety-three (69.4%) were non-alcoholics. Ninety-seven patients (72.4%) had at least one comorbidity, mainly hypertension (44%) and depression (22.4%). Conclusion: In our sample, women with OSCC display a high proportion of tongue tumors, are non-smokers and alcoholics, and have other illnesses prior to cancer.
