Título: OROFACIAL NEUROPATHIC MANIFESTATION IN SJÖGREN SYNDROME PATIENTS: A CASE SERIES

Resumo: Sjögrens syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune connective tissue disease that can involve neuropathic manifestations in the peripheral nervous system. In this case series, we describe a series of patients diagnosed who had neuropathic manifestations in orofacial regions. Six female patients were diagnosed with SS and presented at least one neuropathic manifestation in the orofacial region. All patients complained of xerostomia and xerophthalmia. Three patients displayed paresthesia in the lower lip; two patients had burning sensations in the tongue and/or lower lip; and one patient presented hypoesthesia in the medial third of the face. Three patients were diagnosed with primary SS, and the others were diagnosed with SS secondary to other autoimmune connective tissue diseases. This case series highlights the importance of differential diagnosis of SS in patients with neuropathic symptoms in the oral and maxillofacial regions accompanied by xerostomia and/or xerophthalmia.
