Resumo: Synovial chondromatosis (SC) is a benign nodular cartilaginous proliferation originating from the synovial membrane and rarely observed in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). A 57-years-old male was referred to the service of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a complaint of pain in the left TMJ for three years and there was no history of trauma. Clinically, there was limitation of mouth opening, tenderness in the left TMJ region but not clicking sound. Tomography computer showed widening of the TMJ space with multiple calcifications and initial diagnosis of SC was made. An endaural approach was performed to remove the lesion. The surgical specimen sent to histopathological analysis and the diagnosis of SC was confirmed. The patient remains in following and without recurrence.
