Resumo: A 42-year-old woman presented with a submucosal, painless nodule on the tongue. Intraoral examination revealed a well-circumscribed mass covered by normal mucosa, with a fibrous consistency and located in the anterior part of the tongue. Benign mesenchymal neoplasms, such as neurofibroma and neurilemoma, were the main clinical hypotheses. An excisional biopsy was performed, and microscopic examination revealed an encapsulated mass containing a distribution of hypo- and hypercellular areas. Additionally, sheets of spindle-shaped cells with a patternless arrangement were found, separated by dilated and angulated vascular spaces. The tumor cells were positive for CD34, Bcl2, and CD99, and negative for S-100. The tumor cells also showed nuclear reactivity for STAT6, confirming the diagnosis of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT). The patient is under follow up for 2 months, without clinical signs of tumor recurrence. Even though oral involvement is rare, TFS should be included in the differential diagnosis of tongue submucosal lesions.
