Resumo: The diode laser is an alternative to conventional surgical systems, used as a possible surgical modality in soft tissues in the oral cavity. It has a wavelength ranging from 810 to 980 nm, which is absorbed by hemoglobin and other pigments, with no interaction with hard dental tissues. Some of its advantages include accurate incision, better control of infection risk, coagulation, reduction of surgical time, sterilization of the surgical site, minimal swelling and scarring, minimal or no suturing, significant reduced post-operative pain and considerable bacterial elimination. We report a series of cases using the diode laser for photocoagulation of vascular lesions, excision of inflammatory non-neoplasic proliferative lesions in patients with comorbidities and excision of oral leukoplakia. It has shown excellent results during and after the procedures, being a well indicated technique of choice when there is a good indication.
