Título: ENHANCING BONE RECOVERY WITH HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY: A CASE REPORT

Nome do Apresentador: Carlos Henrique Horst BIANCHIN

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de caso clínico (PCC)

Área Temática: Cirurgia e traumatologia bucomaxilofacial

Resumo: A 60-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer, taking Faslodex, was referred to the oral and maxillofacial surgery due to swelling on the left side of the jaw and spontaneous tooth loss. The physical examination revealed mobility of teeth 43 and 44, and localized bone loss in left side. Initially, it was decided to monitor the case. However, progression with active drainage in the left jaw and presence of bone sequestration was noted. Curettage of the lesion and extraction of contralateral teeth were performed. After a year, the patient returned with increased bone sequestration at left side. The patient underwent 20 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to facilitate bone recovery due to the risk of pathological fracture. A surgery was performed under general anesthesia, peripheral ostectomy and use of platelet aggregates. There were no surgical intercorrences, and wound healing occurred within normal parameters with a favorable clinical prognosis.
