Resumo: A 54-year-old male patient attended a stomatology clinic due to an asymptomatic lesion in the lip with 6-months duration. The patient was an ex-smoker and had a history of chronic occupational sun exposure. Oral examination revealed an ulcer in the lower lip. An incisional biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the lip. After surgical resection, the patient was annually followed-up for five years, and no recurrence was observed. The patient was lost to follow-up for 9 years, and 14 years after the initial treatment he returned due to the presence of a new lesion. A leukoplakic lesion in the middle region of the lower lip was observed, while next to the surgical scar no sign of recurrence was observed. Despite the most patients with SCC of the lips experiment a good prognosis, long-term follow-up is recommended to early detect and manage recurrences or potentially malignant alterations.
