Resumo: Objective: This study aims to assess and characterize the adherence of oral and oropharyngeal cancer patients to dental treatment pre, during, and post-cancer treatment phases. Methods: Retrospective study, which evaluated dental and medical records of patients diagnosed with squamous cell cancer of the oral cavity and oropharynx over a period of 8 years (2013-2021). The frequency of patients presence and absence during treatment was recorded to establish the level of adherence at three moments (D 5-10, D 17-22 and D 30-35) and post-treatment (60 months). Results: 18.1% were female patients, while 81.9% were male, with the oropharynx being the site of highest cancer incidence with 53.4%, followed by the tongue 22.2%; 67.6% of patients had stage 4 disease. 78.9% of those assessed had high adherence before oncological treatment, 81.2% had high adherence during treatment and 56.2% had high adherence following treatment. Conclusion: This retrospective study reveals that the majority of oral and oropharyngeal cancer patients exhibited high adherence to dental treatment before and during oncological intervention, with a slight decline observed post-treatment. The findings underscore the significance of continuous dental care throughout the cancer care journey.
