Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the acute in vivo toxicity of hydrogel incorporated with Byrsonima gardneriana (HBG) extract in Mus musculus mice. Study design: 2000 mg/kg of HBG was administered to experimental group, and the same dose of hydrogel without the extract was given to the negative control group, both consisting of three female mice. For 14 consecutive days, the consumption of food and water was monitored, and signs of toxicity were investigated. The animals were weighed on D0 and D14. After euthanasia, organ excision was performed, and the organs were weighed and sent for histopathological analysis. After confirming normality, Mann-Whitney, Students t-test, and Wilcoxon tests were employed, depending on the variables, with a significance level set at 5%. Results: No behavioral alterations were observed in the animals. There was a statistically significant difference in food consumption in the group treated with HBG, which did not significantly affect the weight variation of the animals. Organs did not show any anatomical changes, except for statistically significant variations in the stomach index of the animals treated with HBG. Histopathological analysis revealed the absence of any signs of toxicity. Conclusion: HBG did not exhibit acute oral toxicity in the animal models. (CEUA: nº 021/2021)
