Resumo: Metastatic tumors of the jaw bones comprise about 1% of all malignant oral neoplasms. A 47-year-old woman with a current history of breast cancer treatment presented with a painful swelling in the left mandibular bone for 10 months. The initial suspicion was ameloblastoma based on cone‑beam computed tomography (CBCT). Microscopic analysis revealed a malignant neoplasm characterized by the proliferation of epithelial cells disposed of in abortive glandular-like structures. The cells showed immunopositivity for cytokeratin 7, GATA3, estrogen and progesterone receptors. Based on medical history, CBCT, histopathological and immunohistochemical profile, the diagnosis of metastatic tumor with a primary origin in the breast was confirmed. The patient was referred to her oncologist for further treatment. It is crucial for pathologists to be attentive to the medical history of their patients to consider the possibility of metastasis to the maxillofacial region.
