Resumo: Objective: To investigate the use of cannabinoids (CBD), associated or not with photobiomodulation (PBM), in the control of oral mucositis (OM).Study Design: This was a randomized crossover clinical trial with 36 patients with head and neck cancer submitted to radiotherapy (RT). Treatment combinations were administered in randomized order using a Williams design: (A) PBM alone; (B) CBD alone; and (C) combined PBM+CBD. Each intervention was applied at 10 RT sessions. The OM severity (WHO and NCI), oral health-related quality of life (OHIP-14), (MMAS-8) were assessed at RT 0, 10th, 20th, and 30th sessions. Results: The OM evaluation by the WHO scale showed similar results between groups. The NCI scale showed that the association PBM+CBD presented a lower degree of OM at the 20th RT. At the 30th RT, the association PBM+CBD presented a lower OHIP-14 score when compared to the PBM and CBD alone. The Morisky evaluation showed good adherence to the interventions adopted in all periods evaluated. Conclusion: The association of CBD and PBM presented less degree of OM at the 20th RT session, and a better oral health-related quality of life at the 30th RT session. The interventions were well tolerated by the participants.
