Resumo: 41 years old woman, with no systemic diseases, with pain, itching and unable to eat, presented aphthous lesions after a tonsillitis with a 7 months history. She was hospitalized and medicated with antibiotics. At the beginning of the lesions, reported difficulty in swallowing and hoarseness. Clinically, friable oral mucosa, ulcerations, edematous erythematous lesions were observed in the maxillary and mandibular gingival mucosa, buccal mucosa, hard and soft palate, labial mucosa, floor of the mouth, tongue. She was treated with antifungals, antiseptics and antibiotics without improvement, an incisional biopsy was performed. Histopathological analysis disclosed mucosal lining with focal ulceration covered by granulation tissue and dense chronic inflammatory infiltrate with plasmacytic predominance. No specific etiological agent is observed. The oral mucosa culture was negative. The complementary examinations did not provide valuable data. The use of corticosteroids as mouthwashes is indicated (Betamethasone 0.05%). After the first week, the oral condition improved greatly
