Título: RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH ORAL CANDIDOSIS AND HYPOSALIVATION: A RETROSPECTIVE COHORT STUDY IN ICU PATIENTS

Nome do Apresentador: Brenda Nayara CARLOS Ferreira

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Odontologia hospitalar

Resumo: Objective: We aimed to analyze the occurrence of oral candidiasis (OC) and hyposalivation in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), as the factors associated with the their development. Study design: The patients admitted to the ICU were evaluated by calibrated dentists at the ICU bed and sociodemographic and systemic data were collected from the medical records. Associations were verified between the occurrence of oral candidiasis or hyposalivation and the Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate disease-free survival probability. Results: Of the 100 patients analyzed, 65% developed hyposalivation and 11% OC (Pseudomembranous type). The OC and hyposalivation werent significantly associated with local alterations (p>0.05). The probability of the patient being free from OC (survival rate) was 92.69% on the fourth day, while on the eighteenth day it was 71.13%. On the first day of hospitalization, the probability of the patient being free from hyposalivation was 68.75%, while on the fifteenth day, it fell to 26.25% (95% CI: 16.32-37.28%). Conclusion: Hyposalivation was very frequent in this study and it may be related to the emergence of oral candidiasis. Understanding the factors that contribute to the development of hyposalivation and oral candidiasis is essential to improve health care in ICUs.
