Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: Objective: To investigate the effects of Sunitinib and/or Zoledronic acid on vasculature and VEGF expression in maxilla.
Study Design: Rats were allocated into groups: (1) Sunitinib; (2) Zoledronic acid; (3) Sunitinib/Zoledronic acid; (4) Control. After 15 days of treatment, the upper right molars were extracted. Twenty-one days after the extractions, animals were euthanized, and vessels and VEGF expression were quantified in both, right (tooth extraction region) and left (tooth region) sides of the maxilla.
Results: In the tooth region, vessel quantification did not differ between groups and VEGF staining was less in mucosa of Sunitinib/Zoledronic acid than in Control. In the tooth extraction region, vasculature in mucosa was greater in Sunitinib and Sunitinib/Zoledronic acid than Zoledronic acid group. Still in the tooth extraction region, vasculature was greater in the alveolar bone of the Sunitinib compared to Zoledronic acid group, and VEGF staining was greater in mucosa of Sunitinib group compared to Control, whereas in the alveolar bone, it was greater in the Control compared to all other groups.
Conclusion: Zoledronic acid and Sunitinib have distinct effects on vasculature and VEGF expression according to the maxilla site. VEGF does not seem to represent the Sunitinib antiangiogenic effect.
