Título: CHATGPT 3.5 IN THE DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF ORAL LESIONS

Resumo: Objective: To investigate the performance of the language model ChatGPT in the differential diagnosis of oral diseases in comparison to specialists in Stomatology/Oral Medicine or Oral Pathology and Dental Surgeons. Study design: Thirty seven cases of oral and maxillofacial lesions were selected by two researchers from institutional archives, and described to ChatGPT 3.5, 10 Stomatologists or Oral Pathologists, and to 10 Dental Surgeons. For each case, 3 differential diagnoses were asked. A correct response was considered if any of the 3 hypothesis was befitting with the diagnosis of the case. The rate of correct diagnosis was compared between groups. Results: The rate of correct diagnosis provided by ChatGPT (62.16%) was significantly lower than the mean rate of correct diagnosis provided by Stomatologists or Oral Pathologists (86.49%) (p=0.01), and higher than the mean rate of correct diagnosis provided by Dental Surgeons (34.36%) (p=0.004). Conclusion: ChatGPT demonstrates potential to help Dental Surgeons with the differential diagnosis of oral and maxillofacial lesions but do not dispense the management for a final diagnosis by specialists in Stomatology or Oral Pathology.
