Resumo: A 47-year-old man was referred for evaluation of asymptomatic oral lesions persisting for two months. The patient had chikungunya fever ten months earlier and has since experienced ongoing arthralgia and diarrhoea. Treatment up to the time of the consultation included prednisone, vitamin B12, tiorfan, and topical nystatin rinses. The intraoral evaluation revealed multiple bilateral lichenoid lesions associated with erosive areas in the buccal mucosa and the tongues ventral face. Incisional biopsy of the lesions showed an interface mucositis. Given the patient was not on any medication at the time of the consultation, the clinical and microscopic features were consistent with the diagnosis of oral lichen planus. There was no clinical regression after six months of follow-up. While existing literature describes late mucocutaneous manifestations of chikungunya fever, including the flare-up of preexisting dermatological lichen planus, this is the first report of oral lichen planus onset associated with this condition.
