Resumo: Ameloblastoma is a benign but locally aggressive tumor that representing 10% of all
odontogenic tumors. It grows slowly and painlessly, and radiographically frequently appears
as a multilocular lesion. Surgery treatment can be divided into conservative treatment and
radical treatment. This study reports a case of a 11-year-old male patient presenting a lesion
involving the posterior region of jaw, right side, with no defined evolution time.
Radiographic examination revealed a radiolucent, well-defined, unilocular lesion associated
with the crown of tooth 47, causing displacement of tooth 48 and thinning of the cortical
bones. Incisional biopsy was performed, and anatomopathological analysis diagnosis was
conventional ameloblastoma. The patient underwent conservative treatment, performed
through curettage with peripheral osteotomy. After four years of follow-up, the patient
presented bone neoformation and no signs of lesion recurrence. Reinforcing that the
conservative treatment is a viable alternative, especially when compared to the
consequences generated by radical treatment.
