Resumo: Objective: evaluate the oral health status of postmenopausal woman and its possible relation with use of oral bisphosphonates (BFs). Desing of study: Sociodemographic data, oral hygiene habits, obtain DMFT, IPV, ISG indexes and imaginologic evaluation were done in 100 postmenopausal women users or not of oral Bfs. Results: Frequent use of oral Bfs was found in 11 patients (11.0%), mainly Sodium Alendronate. high DMFT was observed in half of the sample, ranging from 10 to 32 (25.81 + 6,359), all had some degree of gingivitis (64.1% - mild and 35.9% - moderate/severe). The most frequent stomatological alterations were candidiasis (48.4%), hyposalivation (26.6%), recurrent aphthous stomatitis (10.9%), fissured tongue (7.8%) and burning mouth syndrome (6.3%). Were not identified significant radiographic alterations. There were no evidence of relation of the oral health status and the oral use of Bfs. Conclusion: Oral BFs are widely used in the treatment of bone resorptive diseases, with evidence that its can exert adverse effects on the stomatognatic complex, but in this study, the oral health status of the sample appears to be associated with poor hygiene/oral health conditions and factors common to advancing age and menopause, without possible relation with the use of oral bisphosphonates.
