Resumo: Oral mucositis (OM) in patients undergoing chemotherapy is a side effect that can impact the quality of treatment, interfering with nutrition and therapeutic adherence. Objective: It is important to understand how different clinical variables and chemotherapy agents may be related to the occurrence, development and duration of OM in patients undergoing cancer treatment. Study design: This is an integrative literature review carried out by collecting scientific articles in the following databases: Medline, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Lilacs. The descriptors were used: "Mucositis" AND "Antineoplastic Agents" AND "Medication Therapy Management", "Stomatitis". Studies published up to 2023 were included. Results: Chemotherapy-induced OM is associated with a high rate of hospitalization and can lead to dose reductions and unplanned interruptions in antineoplastic treatment. 45% of patients waited before telling their doctor about their OM symptoms or waited until a doctor noticed their symptoms. Only 17% of oncologists referred patients to the dental team for advice on OM management, and few (8%) provided patients with health education materials. Conclusion: 15 articles were selected, reinforcing the importance of the dentist in the multidisciplinary team of an oncology sector, for the prevention and control of oral changes during chemotherapy treatment.
