Título: LASER SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF PROLIFERATIVE VERRUCOUS LEUKOPLAKIA: A CLINICAL CASE REPORT

Resumo: A 53-year-old male, smoker, presented with a complaint of "white patches in the oral cavity" persisting for approximately five years, devoid of associated symptoms. Upon intraoral clinical examination,
verrucous white patches exhibiting
irregular margins were evident. These lesions affected the bilateral buccal mucosa, extending towards the retromolar triangle, oropharynx, hard palate, and attached gingiva. Subsequent incisional biopsies of the buccal mucosa bilaterally were performed.
Histopathological analysis unveiled hyperkeratosis concomitant with moderate epithelial dysplasia. With the diagnosis of proliferative verrucous leukoplakia, further biopsies from other affected regions were conducted throughout the follow-up. Owing to the extensive nature of the lesions, the patient was referred for a laser surgical intervention. A series surgical interventions were performed at different times and locations with a high-power diode laser (980nm). The power used was 1.5W in continuous mode, followed by regular monitoring at three-month intervals. Patient is satisfied with the results obtained and diminished smoking.
