Título: SALIVARY GLAND CANCER: A 27-YEAR RETROSPECTIVE CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY IN A POPULATION FROM THE SOUTH OF MINAS GERAIS

Resumo: Objectives: To document the clinicopathological characteristics of Salivary Gland Cancer (SGC) in an oral pathology service in the south of Minas Gerais.
Study Design: This is a retrospective observational clinical study, which carried out a survey of all cases of SGC diagnosed by collecting data from patient records and biopsy reports, both physical and digital.
Results: A total of 24 cases of TGS from a public oral pathology service were diagnosed between 1997 and mid-2024. 14 females (58%) and 10 males (42%), with a mean age of 56,7 years (range: 27 -85 years), The most cases were asymptomatic (56,3%). The minor salivary glands (n= 21, 87,5%) were affected more than the major salivary glands. The palate (n = 12, 50%) was the most commonly affected and mucoepidermoid carcinoma (n = 9, 37,5%) was the most frequent malignant tumor.
Conclusion: Conclusion: The general characteristics of SGC in the population under study were consistent with previously published results from other regions and countries. However, the predominant demographic consisted of Caucasian females with an average age of 62 years. Although a careful morphological analysis is crucial for diagnosing these tumors, immunohistochemical analysis plays a vital role in establishing a precise diagnosis.
