Resumo: A 36-year-old female patient was referred for assessment of a right-sided sublingual lesion, with symptoms and difficulties with swallowing and phonation.
The clinical appearance on intraoral examination was that of an extensive, bluish-coloured, translucent ranula. On ultrasound examination, the images showed changes in the shape and size of the sublingual gland and the presence of a remnant capsule at a certain stage of evolution. The USDO images were captured by a high-frequency transducer in an extraoral examination. Clinical treatment: drainage to relieve clinical symptoms. The evolution of the clinical case was monitored over a six-month period. USDO was essential in defining conservative treatment as a complementary diagnostic method in this clinical case, avoiding surgical treatment.
