Resumo: The objective of this study was to investigate the level of knowledge of elementary school and early childhood education teachers regarding cases of dental avulsion of permanent teeth in a school environment. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative observational study. Data collection was carried out with a convenience sample of 57 teachers using a questionnaire containing questions about dental trauma and the attitudes that education professionals would take in a case of avulsion. The data was analyzed using tables and graphs. Of the 57 questionnaires answered, 28% said they had already witnessed some type of dental trauma involving avulsion or not, 60% had not yet seen it and 12% did not remember. A dry material as a gauze, was the choice of 53.1% to transport the tooth to the dentist if it was impossible to perform immediate reimplantation, while other means such as saline solution (20.3%) and milk (21.9 %) had a lower response percentage. 55 of the 57 teachers had never received training or instruction in first aid related to dental trauma. It is concluded that professionals knowledge about tooth avulsion is low and that health education is necessary to improve emergency procedures even at the site of trauma.
