Título: CLINICAL AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL FEATURES OF TONGUE SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA IN A BRAZILIAN POPULATION: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Resumo: AIM: To evaluate the clinical and epidemiological aspects of patients diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. STUDY DESIGN: This is a descriptive and retrospective study of 31 medical records of cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue treated at an oncology hospital between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2018. Clinical and sociodemographic information available in the patients medical records was collected. RESULTS: The affected age range was 32 to 86 years, with an average age of 59.3. Most patients affected by the disease were male (64.5%), smokers (54.8%), alcoholics (38.7%) and from the capital of the state (54.8%). Surgery was the most used treatment modality (61.3%). CONCLUSION: The clinical and epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue in this hospital is represented by males, smokers, alcohol drinkers, mixed race, with a low level of education and from the capital of the state.
