Resumo: Dermoscopy is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging test that magnifies the skin to visualize morphological structures down to the dermis that are not seen with the naked eye. In oral lesions, the use of dermoscopy is rare and it can be explained by the lack of knowledge of the use of this tool. An 81-year-old woman was referred to the stomatology department of a public institute. Intraoral physical examination revealed the presence of heterogeneous white plaques in the tongue, bilateral buccal mucosa and left lower alveolar ridge. The dermatoscope was used in the lingual belly and showed a hyperkeratotic area that was the region chosen to perform an incisional biopsy. Microscopically, it was observed acanthosis, hyperkeratosis, and severe epithelial dysplasia clinically compatible with proliferative verrucous leukoplakia. The patient has been monitored with the aid of the dermatoscope to verify the absence of atypical areas in the biopsied area.
