Resumo: Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the expression of CD44 and association with cellular proliferation (Ki67) and angiogenesis (VEGF) in benign epithelial odontogenic tumors (OTs). Study design: Paraffin sections of ameloblastomas (AMs), unicystic ameloblastomas (UAMs), adenomatoid odontogenic tumors (AOTs), and calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumors (CEOTs) were obtained from the archives. Immunohistochemical staining for CD44, VEGF and Ki67 was performed. Results: All tumors were CD44-positive. UAMs (50%) and AMs (32%) showed the highest expressions, while AOTs (75%) and CEOTs (100%) showed the lowest, with no significant difference (p = 0.75). High VEGF immunoreactivity was observed in 100% of CEOT cases, followed by 62.5% of AOTs, 37% of AMs, and 25% of UAMs (p= 0.05). Mean Ki67 percentages were 1% for CEOT, 2% for AOT, 3% for UAM, and 8% for AM. No significant associations were found between CD44 and VEGF (p = 0.32) or CD44 and Ki67 (p = 0.63). Conclusion: CD44 contributes to OT pathogenesis, reflecting lesion growth potential. Although no significant association was found between CD44 and angiogenesis or proliferation, higher CD44 labeling scores were related with increased VEGF and Ki67 expression, especially in aggressive tumors (AM and UAM).
