Título: SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA ARISING FROM THE EPITHELIAL LINING OF AN ODONTOGENIC CYST: REPORT OF A RARE CASE

Resumo: A 35-year-old woman presented at the Stomatology department complaining of a swelling and pain in the right side of the jaw with 5 days of duration. During the anamnesis, she reported a cyst excision associated to right lower third molar 20 years ago. Moreover, 3 years ago, she was submitted to a cyst marsupialization in the same region. On intraoral examination, an expansion of the lingual cortex of the mandible was observed. Computed tomography showed an osteolytic lesion with cortical erosion, measuring approximately 3 cm. An aspiration puncture was performed, resulting in drainage of citrine yellow liquid. Our main diagnosis hypothesis was odontogenic cyst. Lesion excision was performed and histopathological analysis revealed a cyst associated to squamous cell carcinoma. The patient underwent segmental mandibulectomy and adjuvant radiotherapy. This case highlights the malignant transformation of the epithelial lining of an odontogenic cyst and the importance of regular follow-up of marsupialized lesions.
