Resumo: Medication related osteonecrosis of jaws is a progressive condition without effective treatment to date. Tissue engineering and cell therapies with stem cells could be applied for this purpose. Objective: Evaluate cell sheets (CSs) human dental pulp stem cells application associated or not with photobiomodulation or antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in rats osteonecrosis. Study Design: In vitro stem cells were obtained and in vivo, 60 Wistar rats had osteonecrosis induced by zolendronate after maxillary molars extraction. They were distributed in experimental groups according to treatment applied. Seven and 28 days after treatment animals jaws were analyzed by Computerized Microtomography, histologiy and histochemistry. Results: At 7 days, microtomography results were similar in all groups. At 28 days, only group treated with CS alone had a significantly higher bone volume than other groups. Histological and histochemical evaluations showed that in all groups where CS was applied, there was a intense bone formation in both experimental times. In groups where photobiomodulation or aPDT were applied, newly formed bone was more organized and mature. Conclusions: We can infer that CSs application associated or not to photobiomodulation or aPDT in osteonecrosis lesions treatment can contribute to faster and organized bone formation.grant#2017/16777-5, São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
