Título: BENEFITS OF PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY IN TREATMENT OF ORAL ULCER IN PATIENT WITH ACUTE PROMYELOCYTIC LEUKEMIA: A CASE REPORT

Resumo: A 45-year-old woman was admitted to a referral hospital for chemotherapy treatment with Daunorubicin for acute promyelocytic myeloid leukemia. After one week of treatment, she presented a hematoma-like lesion in the region of upper incisors, associated with pain and swelling at the adjacent area, which rapidly progressed to ulceration covered by pseudomembrane. Hematological analysis showed a low neutrophil count (1000 cell/mm³ to 150 cell/mm³). Systemic antibiotic treatment was initiated for 15 days (Vancomycin, metronidazole, and meropenem) and daily antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). After 15 days, lesion margins' epithelialization was observed with absence of symptoms. Thirty-day follow-up showed progression on ulcer reepithelialization, with a remaining area of exposed bone. After 60 days, exposed bone epithelialization and complete stabilization were observed. The case follow-up continues on an outpatient setting without signs of complication. Local and non-invasive management is important for immunosuppressed patients because it minimize antibiotics overuse and its associated side effects.
