Título: PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY AND OZONE THERAPY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PERI-IMPLANTITIS IN A PATIENT USING BIPHOSPHONATES

Resumo: A 77-year-old female patient, user of bisphosphonate (Bonviva ®), was referred for evaluation of periodontal and peri-implant changes that caused pain and bleeding. The clinical examination showed a completely toothless patient using implant-supported prostheses; presence of spontaneous bleeding in the region of 43, 44 and 45, with swelling, pain and difficulty eating. Cone beam computed tomography confirmed the presence of an extensive hypodense area around the implants in the region of 43 and 44 and the diagnosis was peri-implantitis. The patient underwent conventional periodontal therapy associated with antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and ozone therapy, in two weekly sessions for two months. Clinical and radiographic follow-up confirmed a decrease in radiolucency in the peri-implant region and a reduction in signs and symptoms. The biannual review 2 years ago confirms an area without clinical changes even after replacement of the implant-supported prosthesis.
