Resumo: Hyposalivation (HS) and xerostomia (XT) are commonly disorders in elderly people and photobiomodulation of the salivary glands has been widely used to increase salivary flow. So, systemic vascular photobiomodulation (SVPBM) can be an efficient option in oral medicine due to its wide applicability in improving numerous diseases. The aim was to report a 59-years-old female patient, with HS and XT, who was submitted to SVPBM with a continuous transcutaneous red laser attached to a bracelet on the left radial artery. The irradiation was performed with red diodo laser, 660nm, 100mW, 180J, 30 minutes (Laser Duo, MMOptics, São Paulo, Brazil) weekly for 10 weeks. HS and XT were measured at weeks 1, 6 and 11 and the patient showed increased unstimulated (0.02-0.2mL/min) and stimulated (0.35-1.12mL/min) salivary flow and reduced xerostomia. It´s seems that SVPBM may be an alternative therapy for the management of this conditions and can improve quality of life.
