Resumo: Objective: Evaluate the anti-migratory effects of melatonin in oral squamous cell carcinoma cell lines. Study Design: Wound healing assay was performed, the SCC25 cell line was treated with three different concentrations of melatonin, determined from the cell viability test, being 0.38mM, 0.76mM and 1.52mM, the treated cells were compared with untreated controls and monitored for three periods, T0, T24 and T48. Results: The migration of SCC25 cells was inhibited by melatonin in a dose- (maximum inhibitory concentration - IC50) and time-dependent manner. Melatonin did not obtain significant results in inhibiting migration at concentrations of 0.38mM and 0.76mM compared to the control, with the best results being achieved with double of IC50 dose of melatonin (1.52mM) in a period of 24 hours to 48 hours, decreased migratory activity of cells. Conclusion: Melatonin exerts antimigratory effects in oral squamous cell carcinoma in a dose- and time-dependent manner.
