Resumo: The study aimed to analyze the prevalence of types of ossification of the stylohyoid complex in a population through retrospective analysis of panoramic radiographs (PRs). Two previously calibrated examiners determined the presence or absence of the stylohyoid process in the sample, composed of 1045 PRs, according to the classification of Langlais et al., as follows: (A) Types of ossification - without ossification, elongated, pseudoarticulated or segmented; (B) Ossification patterns: Ossified contour; Partially ossified; or Completely ossified. It was observed that age and sex are not associated with the presence of ossification. There was an association (p-value <0.05) between the affected side of the mandible and the presence of ossification; age and type of ossification; sex of the individuals and type of ossification; age and ossification patterns and between sex and ossification patterns. There was a higher frequency of elongated ossification and calcified contour pattern, with no association found between the presence of ossification and gender or age.
