Resumo: Plummer-Vinson Syndrome (PVS) is associated with an increased risk of hypopharyngeal, esophageal, and oral malignancies. Recently, the WHO Collaboration Centre for Oral Cancer identified PVS as a syndrome that could potentiate the development of oral cancer. Aim: This systematic review aims to explore head and neck cancer patterns in PVS patients and delineate cancer presentations in this population. Study Design: Individual search strategies for 7 databases were developed. The references cited in the selected articles were checked and a partial grey literature search was undertaken. Only studies investigating head and neck cancer manifestations in confirmed PVS cases were eligible, encompassing case series and reports. Methodological quality was evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist for Case Reports. Results: Out of 4,104 references, 18 studies were included for synthesis. Predominantly, head and neck cancers localized to the larynx and oropharynx in PVS patients, with the tongue emerging as the primary site affected by oral cancer within this review. Conclusion: The evidence suggests that larynx and oropharynx cancers are principal manifestations of head and neck cancer in PVS patients, while the tongue is notably susceptible in cases of oral cancer.
