Resumo: Objective: To assess dentists and dental undergraduate students knowledge of oral manifestations of systemic diseases and their self-confidence in handling oral lesions. Study design: This analytical cross-sectional observational study involved 112 participants (37 students and 75 dentists) who evaluated 23 clinical cases using photographs. Participants completed an online self-administered questionnaire covering lesions associated with systemic conditions, oral lesions, and variations from normal patterns. Additionally, they answered questions regarding their self-confidence in diagnosing oral lesions and identifying those related to systemic diseases. Results: Participants exhibited relatively low scores (median = 67%) in distinguishing lesions related to systemic conditions, ranging from 35% to 100%. Professional category and perceived preparedness did not significantly influence this performance. Only 37% believed they had received adequate training on the subject, with 97% expressing the need for further training in recognizing oral lesions. Conclusions: Both students and dentists demonstrated a low level of knowledge. Continuous educational efforts are necessary to address this knowledge gap.
