Resumo: This study explores Sonodynamic Therapy (SDT) for treating oral osteonecrosis in six patients, subsequent to cancer therapies including bisphosphonates, monoclonal antibodies, and corticosteroids. These treatments previously led to complications like pain, recurrent infections, and reduced life quality, affecting dietary habits and social interactions due to the odor of lesions. Osteonecrosis, linked to medication, diminishes bone blood supply either temporarily or permanently. Comprehensive patient evaluations, including medication histories and clinical imaging, preceded SDT treatment. SDT, an innovative approach, uses low-frequency, high-intensity ultrasound to activate sonosensitizers, producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) for non-invasive infection control. Remarkable improvements were observed in all patients, demonstrating SDTs broader clinical utility, especially in resource-limited settings. This research underscores SDTs efficacy in improving osteonecrosis patients conditions, suggesting the need for further investigation and potential adoption in clinical practices. The study indicates SDTs promise in enhancing quality of life and supports its broader clinical application and research.
