Resumo: Objective: To evaluate orofacial manifestations in people living with HIV. Study design: In a capital city in the northeast Brazil, we carried out a cross-sectional study at a Reference Hospital for HIV/AIDS therapy. Based on the 1993 EC-Clearinghouse criteria, oral lesions were assessed. The chi-square independence test was used to examine the relationship between the frequency of lesions and the TCD4+ cell count, and HIV viral load (significance level of 0.05). Results: A total of sixty-seven patients were examined. Most individuals were brown or black (89.28%) and had income from disability retirement (49.30%). We also noticed a modest male prevalence (50.70%). Orofacial manifestations were rare, with the most common changes being xerostomia (4.50%), lipodystrophy (4.50%), gingival inflammation (9.00%), and candidiasis (10.60%). 44.77% of patients in this sample had an undetectable viral load, while 97% of patients were receiving antiretroviral therapy. Most (74.62%) had been receiving treatment for more than five years. Oral symptoms, viral load, and TCD4+ levels were not significantly associated (p>0.05). Conclusion: In summary, HAART minimizes HIV-related oral lesions, which is consistent with earlier research.*This research was supported by CAPES - PDPG.
