Resumo: High-dose interstitial brachytherapy (HDR) is an alternative treatment for patients with oral cancer. Oral mucositis is the most common associated toxicity. We present 3 patients treated with HDR for squamous cell carcinoma of the lip. All developed severe mucositis (SM) and radiodermatitis after treatment. Clinically, all patients had painful and extensive erosive lesions in the irradiated area and adjacent tissues. Two of them presented with skin lesions on the face, trunk, and lower limbs with rash, resulting in hospitalization. The mucositis was treated with photobiomodulation, corticosteroids, antibiotic creams, and analgesics. We highlight that the SM in the three patients was more extensive and delayed than usual. Interdisciplinary work was undertaken with dermatology, nutrition, medical clinic, palliative care, and stomatology to monitor and resolve the clinical condition.
