Resumo: The Onco Project is an extension program developed 15 years ago with the aim of training qualified and competent professionals to properly assist patients with malignant neoplasms, both pre- and post-operatively, in pre-, during, and post-radiation therapy (in the head and neck regions) and/or chemotherapy. This University project is composed of doctors, dentists, nutritionists, and speech therapists, considering that the involvement of multiple specialties in the treatment of oncological patients is considered fundamental for obtaining better prognoses and a higher quality of life. Services provided include: lesion diagnosis; patient guidance; adequacy of the oral environment to start treatment; lasertherapy; prevention and treatment of lesions caused by therapy side effects; follow-up of these patients in the therapeutic process and oral rehabilitation restoring function, aesthetics, and quality of life. Additionally, the project carries out the development of classes, research, seminars, prevention campaigns, and awareness, taking into account a multidisciplinary approach. The project has been awarded at various congresses and honored by the Municipal Chamber of São José dos Campos for its high-level care to oncological and transplanted patients, in a field of action that is lacking throughout the country.
