Título: TOPICAL TREATMENTS FOR THE MANIFESTATIONS OF ORAL CHRONIC GRAFT-VERSUS-HOST DISEASE: A NARRATIVE REVIEW.

Resumo: Objectives: The main purpose of this narrative review was to synthesize the available evidence on topical treatments for oral manifestations of the chronic host disease, through a literature search and critical evaluation of the findings. Design: Research has been carried out in the databases Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Bibliografia Brasileira de Odontologia (BBO), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), crossing the english descriptors "graft versus host disease", "topical treatment" and "mouth", over the last 10 years. Results: Out of the selected articles, 50% included dexamethasone as topical treatment of oral manifestation of GVHD, three of these comparing with tacrolimus, one with clobetasol and one with budesonide. In addition, 10% of the studies evaluated thalidomide compared to a placebo solution, 10% topical application of autologous platelet gel and 10% a topical sialogue spray. Finally, 10% evaluated the clinical approaches proposed by the practitioners and 10% showed the impact of immunomodulatory therapy on the cells. Conclusion: This review highlights the diversity of therapeutic options and the relevance of topical treatments in the management of DECH, offering promising prospects for the development of more specific and less invasive therapy approaches.
