Área Temática: Imaginologia dentomaxilofacial

Resumo: Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in mandibular trabecular and cortical patterns among individuals diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) using dental radiographic examinations. Study design: Observational studies examining trabecular/cortical patterns in dental imaging exams were systematically collected from five databases and gray literature sources in November 2023. Study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment were conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklists. The certainty of evidence was determined using the GRADE approach. Meta-analysis was performed for studies reporting mean differences or utilizing dichotomous models based on radiomorphometric index (RMI) type. Results: This review included a total of thirteen manuscripts. The Mandibular Cortical Index (MCI) and Mentual Index (MI) were the most frequently studied RMIs. Mean differences in MI between CKD and control groups ranged from -0.5100 to -0.2000. According to MCI, the estimated risk ratio for decreased bone mineral density (BMD) in CKD patients was 13.7% (95% CI: 0.04 - 0.24; p=0.008) compared to healthy individuals. Conclusion: MCI and MI serve as valuable screening tools for assessing reduced BMD. However, it is important to interpret these findings cautiously due to the low quality of evidence.
