Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To explore the efficacy of stem cells in the individualized therapy of ameloblastic carcinomas (AC) and odontogenic cysts. STUDY DESIGN: A literature review was carried out in the PubMed, Web of Science, Scielo databases using the descriptors "Stem Cells", "Odontogenic Cysts", "Cell Differentiation". RESULT: From a total of 72 publications, 17 studies published between 2019 and 2023 were selected. Analyses revealed significant association between stem cells, biological behavior of odontogenic lesions (Ol) and the expression of stem cell markers. SOX2 has been shown to distinguish ACA or odontogenic keratocysts from ameloblastomas. Two types of mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from fibrous capsules of dentigerous cyst before and after marsupialization. These fibroblast-like colony-forming cells express CD44+, CD90+, CD31-, CD34-, CD45- markers and differentiate into osteoblast-like cells, adipocytes, and chondrocytes under induction.CONCLUSION: Stem cells show promising potential in the individualized treatment of degeneration in regions of AC and odontogenic cysts.
