Título: INTERLEUKINS 6, 17 AND 18 IMMUNOEXPRESSION IN ORAL LICHEN PLANUS: ASSOCIATION WITH CLINICAL AND HISTOLOGICAL PARAMETERS

Nome do Apresentador: Karen Hurtado de Andrade COSTA

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: to evaluate the immunoexpression of interleukins 6, 17 and 18 in oral
lichen planus and their correlation with clinicopathological features. Materials and
Methods: Forty oral lichen planus lesions were submitted to immunohistochemical
reactions directed against CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes, and interleukins 6, 17
and 18. Results: Hyperkeratosis was observed in 21 cases (53%), and exocytosis of
T CD4+ and T CD8+ lymphocytes were present in, respectively, 17 (42%) and 30
(75%) cases. Interleukin 6 was the most expressed interleukin both in epithelium and
connective tissue. Interleukin 17 expression was intense in the connective tissue in
40% of the cases. Interleukin 18 expression was mostly mild/moderate in epithelium
(40% of the cases) and connective tissue (45%). Exocytosis was associated with a
higher interleukin expression, and interleukin 17 expression was higher in epithelium
showing hyperkeratosis. Conclusions: the studied interlekins are more expressed
when there is exocytosis of both T CD4+ and T CD8+ lymphocytes. Expression of
these interleukins can be associated with the epithelial alterations encountered in
oral lichen planus, participating in the pathogenesis and modulating the clinical
expression of the disease.
